MGA TODAY
Today the MGA is comprised of about 360 full golf members of Ford’s Colony Country Club. It is a diverse group of golfing enthusiasts with a range of reasons for being members of the MGA. You can count on a game with the MGA, or meet new friends, or compete for prizes whatever your objective. The MGA serves the membership and the community of Ford’s Colony.
The MGA 18 organizes daily play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the year where all you have to do is sign up 24 hours in advance to get a game. Six special tournaments, as well as the Monthly Stroke Play, are organized during the golfing year March – November. Additionally, Home and Away matches on a sign-up basis are
scheduled against other Golf Clubs and MGA Golfers compete to qualify for the Interclub – Williamsburg Cup Team. A tournament which is worth special mention is the Olde Towne Medical Challenge, a golf tournament for charity that raises nearly $50,000 each year.
The MGA 9 is comprised of about 70 MGA members who either don’t yet play at the handicap level of the MGA 18 or prefer the more social and relaxed nature of the nine hole group. These men play year round Monday, Thursday, and Friday and hold a special tournament at least once a month during the April to October golfing season.
The MGA men also participate fully in the FCCC Tournaments as well as several tournaments held jointly with the two LGA organizations. Several Breakfast Meetings allowing business and pleasure to take place before golf takes place during the year. Finally, the MGA season is capped with the Formal Dinner Dance held annually in November where old and new friends get a chance to show their dance moves to their golfing rivals and spouses.
The MGA is an organization only as good as its members and their participation. Suggestions and ideas for improvement are always welcome as are new members.
